DALE - Alvin Gray Ricklefs Jr. 82, of Dale, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday March 30, 2003 at St. Joseph's hospital. He was born on Aug. 7, 1919 in Crawfordsville to Alvin Gray Ricklefs Sr. and Ruth McNeil Ricklefs. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wetzel Ricklefs of Dale whom he married on June 15, 1981 in West Terre Haute; three daughters, Alicia Ricklefs, who lives at home, Charlene Ricklefs of Shelburn and Sharon Gallman and her husband Heiner of Campobello, S.C.; one sister, Bernice Ricklefs; six grandchildren, Kim, Jim, Angela, Cory, Wendy and Jody; six great-grandchildren, Little Sharon, Allen, Brent, Camdon, Haley, and Sharlie; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Held Wetzel, of Dale, brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Mary Wetzel, Santa Claus, Ind., Sandra and Mikee Tempel of Evansville, Gary and Carla Wetzel, Santa Claus, Ind., Barb and John McBride, of Lincoln City, Ind.; three caretakers, Bill Wetzel, Barb McBride, Gayle Jahn; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred; one son Jim and one sister, Bessie. He served in the United States Army as a Sergent in the 314th Infantry Medical Detachment in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with one Bronze Star during World War II. He was a member of the Rotary Club, West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge # 687 F&AM, V.F.W. West Terre Haute Ministerial Association, a member of United Way, and the North Spencer Ministerial Association, and Wingate Church. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School and Yankton South Dakota Seminary. He was a pastor at Humbolt, South Dakota for 4 years. He was the minister of Bethany United Church of Christ for 22 years, he retired in 1983. He was the Terre Haute Regional Hospital chaplain for 2 years. He was pastor at St. John's United Church of Christ in Lamar, Ind. and Zion United Church in Chrisney, Ind. He was pastor Emeritus at Bethany United Church of Christ and St. Peter's United Church of Christ. He was also a blood donor. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in the St. Peters United Methodist Church in Lamar. Burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Chip Jahn officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Bethany Church of Christ with a memorial service at 11:30 at the church and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. at the Fuller Funeral Home in Dale. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the America Bible Society, a favorite charity, or a person in need.
